Density Effects in Forward Scattering of Resonant Light in Rubidium Vapor

چکیده
Transmission of light through an atomic sample placed between crossed polarizers in a magnetic field is jointly determined by Faraday rotation and net absorption: transmission increases with rotation and decreases with absorption. Both rotation and absorption are proportional to the atomic density N0, hence, in a certain range of N0, the two effects may compete yielding a distinct density dependence of the transmitted light. We have studied such dependence in rubidium vapor for N0 = 7.5 × 10 7.5 × 10 at/cm with resonant laser light. We present interpretation of the competition effect and discuss its possible application for atomic density determination.

Rapidly reconfigurable slow-light system based on off-resonant Raman absorption
We present a slow-light system based on dual Raman absorption resonances in warm rubidium vapor. Each Raman absorption resonance is produced by a control beam in an off-resonant system. This system combines all optical control of the Raman absorption and the low-dispersion broadening properties of the double Lorentzian absorption slow light. The bandwidth, group delay, and central frequency of ...

We present a lifetime measurements of the 6s level of rubidium. We use a time-correlated singlephoton counting technique on two different samples of rubidium atoms. A vapor cell with variable rubidium density and a sample of atoms confined and cooled in a magneto-optical trap. The 5P1/2 level serves as the resonant intermediate step for the two step excitation to the 6s level. We detect the dec...

متن کاملAtom Interferometry in a Warm Vapor.
We demonstrate matter-wave interference in a warm vapor of rubidium atoms. Established approaches to light-pulse atom interferometry rely on laser cooling to concentrate a large ensemble of atoms into a velocity class resonant with the atom optical light pulse. In our experiment, we show that clear interference signals may be obtained without laser cooling. This effect relies on the Doppler sel...
متن کاملLaser-noise-induced correlations and anti-correlations in Electromagnetically Induced Transparency
High degrees of intensity correlation between two independent lasers were observed after propagation through a rubidium vapor cell in which they generate Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT). As the optical field intensities are increased, the correlation changes sign (becoming anti-correlation). The experiment was performed in a room temperature rubidium cell, using two diode lasers ...
